Suntory is set to expand its popular Horoyoi line of canned cocktails with the introduction of two new high-alcohol variants this spring, each boasting an alcohol content of 14 percent. Traditionally recognized for its low-alcohol offerings, the Horoyoi brand typically features cocktails with just 3 percent alcohol, which aligns with the meaning of its name — “faintly intoxicated.”
The newcomers include a product called Horoyoi no Moto, or Horoyoi Base, which departs from the traditional can format and is sold in bottles. This concentrated form of Horoyoi liqueur can be mixed with soda water, tea, or other mixers. Although Suntory suggests a mixing ratio of one part Horoyoi Base to three parts mixer, this still yields a drink with an alcohol content of around 3.5 percent, slightly stronger than standard canned Horoyoi.
Online reactions have been mixed, with many fans joking about the potential for stronger intoxication, with comments describing the drink as "Strong Horoyoi" and questioning the label of "faintly intoxicated."
The Horoyoi Base varieties will be available starting April 1, retailing for approximately 390 yen for a 250-milliliter bottle.
