Singapore’s bartending scene showcased its innovative prowess at the World Class Bartender of the Year 2025 finals, hosted by Diageo. The event took place on June 16 at Baia, a rooftop bar at Esplanade Mall, where six talented finalists redefined cocktail artistry using Diageo’s premium Reserve spirits such as Johnnie Walker, Don Julio, Zacapa, Tanqueray, and The Singleton.
The first challenge, titled “Drink to the Future,” invited bartenders to conceptualize tomorrow’s cocktails. Emphasizing immersive experiences, the creations transcended traditional flavors by incorporating interactive and sensory elements—visuals, aromas, and textures—into the drinking experience. For instance, Tryson Quek from Side Door won the challenge with his entry “Possibilities,” creatively using Zacapa XO and kumquat foam, reflecting the emerging trend of savory profiles.
Other notable entries included Ooi Foo Giap’s “Resonance,” featuring a smoky cocktail complemented by an edible QR code to bridge digital and physical realms, and Kelvin Saquilayan’s “A Minute to the Moon,” which incorporated a fine mist of kombu and pine mint.
The second challenge, “The Showdown,” required competitors to prepare five brand-specific cocktails in five minutes, reinforcing the importance of brand storytelling in mixology. This segment highlighted how bartenders can maintain brand integrity while delivering varied experiences, showcasing speed and creativity.
Through the World Class Singapore competition, Diageo has not only spotlighted bartending talent but has also embraced trends of premiumization and experiential marketing in the beverage sector. The brand’s strategic focus on creativity and consumer engagement reflects a shift towards elevated consumer experiences, positioning bartenders as crucial influencers in brand storytelling.
After an evening of remarkable performances, Tryson Quek emerged as the World Class Bartender of the Year 2025 for Singapore, earning his place at the global finals in Toronto. His victory emphasizes Diageo’s commitment to fostering creativity in the industry, highlighting the evolving relationship between premium spirits and mixology in Asia’s competitive landscape.
