What started as fun gatherings during the pandemic has blossomed into Whisk & Whiskey, a cherished bar and bakery located in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Established by Chef Secoyah Browne and Chandra Touch, this unique establishment has been serving up a delightful mix of pastries, cocktails, and Trinidadian-Cambodian small bites since its opening in 2021.
With the pandemic’s restrictions mandating that food be served with alcohol, the duo recognized an opportunity to blend crafted cocktails with delicious small bites, thus creating a community-friendly atmosphere. Positioned at 259 4th Ave., Whisk & Whiskey quickly became a favorite hangout for locals eager to reconnect and expand their culinary horizons.
Browne expressed that the move towards opening a bakery was a natural evolution for her, while Touch’s expertise in bar management complemented the vision perfectly. Their menu features iconic Trinidadian offerings like fried dough bakes, often paired with saltfish or shark, alongside plantains and doubles.
The owners, who selected Park Slope for its cultural diversity, felt that there was a gap in the local food scene that they could fill. Browne emphasized the community’s readiness for more cultural and flavor diversity, noting the limited representation of Trinidadian and Cambodian cuisines in the area.
Moreover, Whisk & Whiskey is not just a place for dining but also a hub for cultural events. They host regular gatherings such as Trinidadian dinner parties, film screenings, and dance events, fostering a sense of belonging that reaches beyond their specific culinary roots.
Navigating challenges like recent tariff-induced price increases, Browne and Touch have learned the importance of adaptability in business. They maintain open communication with their patrons about the reasons behind such changes.
Looking ahead, the duo plans to continue sharing their passion for community and cuisine, with aspirations of opening another location in Brooklyn to further spread their unique offerings.
