The Cheung Family shut down Hing Lung Company in April of this year after many successful years in Chinatown, citing safety concerns with their previous location. They have since reopened as a stylish yet casual dining spot in Bernal, playfully named: Go Duck Yourself. Continuing to showcase their renowned Cantonese BBQ, this tribute to hanging ducks and crispy pork skin is now delighting a fresh audience. The selection of meats — and there is an abundance — is absolutely delicious.
Recently, a group of us decided to sample nearly everything on the menu.
Naturally, we ordered the roast duck.

With a gloriously crispy skin and rich, flavorful fat, it was delicious, accompanied by a plum vinaigrette and duck au jus. We devoured this glistening meat like wild animals, stuffing pillowy bao with it along with a sprinkle of scallions. Pure bliss.
Then arrived the pork (just a warning, the next image is quite indulgent).
Crunchy pig skin paired with tender pig meat, perfect for dipping into a hoisin sesame paste. It provided a satisfying experience that felt both luxurious and primal.
Immediately following was the delicious char siu.
This dish featured charred and glazed pork collar, enhanced by a delightful chutney made from blossom honey and ginger, creating an almost divine experience.
We didn’t overlook the vegetables, though.
Soft greens, sautéed with garlic and shallots, brought a smoky flavor, all elegantly topped off with a splash of whiskey. It served as a brilliant palate cleanser.
Next on our culinary journey, we indulged in the extraordinary wings.
This dish showcased fried chicken at its best, enhanced by a special chin chow bean sauce crafted from house-fermented black beans, and topped with ginger and Sichuan peppercorns for that added kick and flair.
We then savored the exquisite soy-poached chicken accompanied by ginger chutney.
With its shimmering skin and wonderfully tender meat, it was a true delight of juicy perfection.
Next up was the sticky rice:
This comforting dish featured glutinous, sticky rice that was wok-fried and combined with an assortment of ingredients including Chinese sausage, duck liver sausage, soy sauce, dried shrimp, shiitake mushrooms, and sugar-cured pork belly. All of these delightful components were wrapped in a lotus leaf and steamed to perfection, making it a centerpiece, as if it were a treasured gift for Chinese New Year. It was hearty and packed with flavor.
Finally, surprisingly, my favorite dish of the evening turned out to be the noodles.
These indulgent, chewy egg noodles, rich with wok hei, were intertwined with succulent pieces of duck, chicken, peppers, onions, scallions, duck au jus, and a hint of white pepper. I found myself utterly captivated by this dish, relishing its smooth, enticing texture and an explosion of umami flavor.
In summary, every dish we tried was delightful, and there wasn’t a single misstep in our experience. How often does that happen? Additionally, the prices here are incredibly affordable.
Just a quick note: GDY currently does not serve alcohol. However, there’s the always amazing Wild Side located across the street, and just two doors down is the esteemed Lucky Horseshoe. Make sure to build up your appetite; you’ll need it.
