A Delta Air Lines flight from Minneapolis had a harrowing crash landing at Toronto Pearson Airport, ending up belly-up. All 80 passengers on board were evacuated, although 19 suffered injuries and three were hospitalized with critical conditions.
Survivor Pete Koukov recounted the chaos of the evacuation during an interview on "America’s Newsroom." In a dramatic video he shared, crew members instructed passengers to "Leave everything. Drop it," but some took their belongings, causing concern among travel experts.
Gary Leff, a travel industry expert, noted that grabbing items during an emergency could significantly slow evacuation efforts, potentially jeopardizing lives. However, he acknowledged that in the heat of the moment, passengers may prioritize personal items directly within reach, such as prescription medications.
Brandon Blewett, another expert, emphasized the need to follow crew instructions during emergencies, advocating for prioritizing escape over material possessions. The Delta safety video reiterates this crucial message, stating that carrying baggage can impede a timely evacuation.
As a reminder, passengers should be aware that in emergencies, removing oneself from danger should take precedence over retrieving personal belongings.
