Marin caterer Deb Lencioni Keith opened Kitchen in Novato on April 3, 2023, after a successful 30-year career catering events. Kitchen has quickly gained a reputation as a local gem, praised by diners and food enthusiasts alike. My friends and I decided to experience it firsthand after hearing rave reviews.
Upon entering the cozy establishment, we were greeted by a beautiful pastry display. After settling at our table, we excitedly browsed the menu. Cruz, who was working the counter, did a fantastic job answering our many questions about the tempting pastries. We prioritized dessert first, which Cruz kindly set aside until we finished our main courses.
Décor at Kitchen is warm and inviting, featuring cheerful flower arrangements and a community bulletin board. The menu offered an all-day breakfast alongside lunch options. Our lunch selections included the Curried Chicken and Apple Toast ($14), Italian Tuna Salad ($14), Kitchen Grain Bowl ($18), and a Grilled Tri-Tip Sandwich ($18).
Each dish was beautifully presented and full of vibrant colors. The Italian Tuna Salad was particularly exceptional, served on a base of red cabbage and featuring flavors from lemon, olive oil, and capers. The Kitchen Grain Bowl stood out as well, with a mix of garbanzo beans, quinoa, roasted vegetables, and avocado slices, all enhanced by a refreshing lemon vinaigrette.
The Tri-Tip Sandwich made with medium-rare beef, herbed aioli, sharp cheddar, and arugula on fresh bread from Della Fattoria delivered a simple yet satisfying taste. The Curried Chicken and Apple Toast, served on walnut bread, delighted us with its combination of flavors and textures.
Dessert time came, and we ordered Bread Pudding ($12), Rustic Fruit Tart ($12), and Butterscotch Budino ($14). Each dessert was presented in a way that made it hard to choose a favorite. The bread pudding was perfectly moist and surprisingly light, while the fruit tart had a tender crust that complemented its juicy filling. Meanwhile, the Butterscotch Budino was sinfully rich and topped with Chantilly cream and an almond tuile.
Before we left, manager Julie Rhodes surprised us with little pink hearts, a token of appreciation started as a tradition on their first anniversary. Kitchen offers a delightful mix of thoughtful food, charming ambiance, and caring service that makes it a local treasure.
