Hanu, Dubai’s new high-end Korean restaurant, fills a notable gap in the city’s fine dining scene, which previously lacked notable options for Korean cuisine. As soon as you walk through the doors, the serene atmosphere of Korean culture envelops you, with the interior featuring soft charcoal tones and traditional patterns.
Upon our arrival, we received a warm greeting from our waiter, Travis, who guided us through a menu that showcases fresh twists on traditional dishes. We began with the A5 Wagyu gyoza, which delighted us with its crispy base and rich filling, perfectly complemented by KFC (Korean Fried Cauliflower) that balanced sweetness with spice. One standout dish was the raw red prawn, marinated for a day in a soy-citrus mixture, offering a refreshing contrast to the richer starters.
For the main event, we were eager to try the ‘Meat Me at the Grill’, featuring high-grade beef cuts cooked right at our table amidst a selection of kimchi and traditional pickles. The meat journey commenced with Australian Black Angus, followed by Australian Wagyu MB 6-7, Japanese Wagyu striploin, and the Yangnyeom Short Rib Galbi. This sumptuous selection exemplified Korean BBQ and highlighted Hanu’s dedication to quality ingredients and bold flavors. The in-table barbecue was designed to enhance the dining experience by venting strong smells away from the diners.
Accompanying the meat was steamed rice and Budae Jjigae, a hearty kimchi stew that provided warmth and a hint of spice. We also tasted a bowl of cold noodles with thinly sliced mushrooms and fresh herbs, a dish that counterbalanced the richer mains nicely.
To conclude our meal, we indulged in Hodugwaja, traditional Korean walnut pastries filled with red bean paste and walnuts, presented artistically on a bed of whole walnuts.
Overall, our experience at Hanu was exceptional, marked by calming surroundings, friendly service, and spectacular food. It’s a delightful venue for special occasions or simply enjoying a unique dining experience.
