Federal authorities have charged Mohamed Sabry Soliman, a 45-year-old resident of Boulder, Colorado, with multiple offenses, including a hate crime related to a terrorist attack he allegedly executed during a pro-Israel event. Soliman is accused of throwing Molotov cocktails at participants of a gathering organized by a group advocating for the release of Israeli hostages from Hamas.
The incident occurred on June 1, 2025, and left eight people aged 52 to 88 injured, one of whom remains in critical condition. Reports indicate that Soliman hurled the Molotov cocktails into the crowd while shouting "Free Palestine!"
According to federal charging documents, Soliman had planned the attack for a year and was found with an array of incendiary devices when arrested. Authorities discovered a black container containing at least fourteen unlit Molotov cocktails, along with a weed sprayer potentially filled with flammable substances. Further investigation revealed that the glass bottles contained gasoline.
During a police interrogation, Soliman confessed to researching how to make Molotov cocktails online and stated that he specifically targeted the pro-Israel gathering to harm those he referred to as "Zionist people." He expressed his intent to continue such acts of violence, asserting a desire to eliminate those he perceives as adversaries.
The FBI has labeled the event a targeted terror attack and emphasized ongoing investigations into the broader implications of such violence in the U.S., particularly given the recent uptick in antisemitism linked to conflicts overseas.
Soliman entered the U.S. on a work visa two years prior, which has since expired, and he is currently being held at the Boulder County Jail on a $10 million bond while facing a series of charges that include attempted murder and the use of explosives during a felony.
Concerns about antisemitism and violence have escalated in the U.S., prompting public and political backlash against such hate crimes. Several lawmakers and Jewish organizations have condemned the Boulder incident, highlighting the urgent need for community vigilance and broader societal change.
