Tamalpie, a beloved pizza spot in Mill Valley since 2011, is renowned for its Neapolitan-style crusts and California-inspired toppings. Situated at the foot of Mount Tamalpais, the restaurant features a menu with pizzas named after local hiking trails like Cascade and Bootjack, catering to families and couples alike.
During a recent visit, the lively atmosphere was clear, with families enjoying their meals on the patio while adults sipped cocktails from a thoughtfully curated list. The drink selection includes classic options like their excellent negronis, crafted from gin, Campari, and sweet vermouth.
To start, the Arancini ($14) was a delightful choice, featuring creamy risotto balls paired with a roasted tomato-chile aioli and a citrus-dressed arugula salad. The rich flavors of the fried rice balls made for a satisfying appetizer.
Tamalpie also offers an array of house-made pastas priced between $17 to $28, including a stand-out Rigatoni Pesto ($24). This dish was generously topped with pesto, vegetables, and crunchy garlic breadcrumbs, delivering a unique texture and flavor combination.
The pizza menu offers twelve- or 18-inch pies, with the Tenderfoot pizza ($25 for 12-inch) showcasing wild mushrooms, mozzarella, and fontina, perfectly balancing toppings and crust for a memorable bite.
For dessert, the Butterscotch Pudding ($10) was a rich, creamy treat that capped off the meal nicely.
With its scenic views, attentive service, and a menu that pleases both families and couples, Tamalpie continues to be a cherished dining destination in the area.
