BarChef NYC, opened in the summer of 2025, is a notable addition to New York City’s cocktail scene, located on the third floor of a revamped Midtown space. BarChef NYC is the first international location of the acclaimed Toronto bar known for its innovative mixology, and its founder, Frankie Solarik, aims to merge cocktails with a performance-like dining experience. According to Solarik, the cocktails engage not only the palate but also the senses of sight, smell, and texture.
For example, the Golden Honey Penicillin is described as encapsulating “the essence of sunshine,” utilizing ingredients such as beeswax-infused Jonnie Walker Black Label and ginger syrup, accompanied by whimsical presentations like roasted corn cannoli and turmeric-saffron ice. Similarly, the Rose Gold Margarita incorporates unique ingredients like pequin pepper–infused tequila and hibiscus Campari.
The bar not only focuses on the cocktail flavors but also emphasizes emotional experiences, with the drinks designed to evoke feelings and narratives. "My goal… is to provide an emotional experience," Solarik explains, highlighting the importance of immersive design in making lasting impressions on guests.
The intimate setting of BarChef, with only 82 seats in a space of 3,200 square feet, allows patrons to witness the crafted cocktails being assembled live. Customizations and in-house creations, including infusions and bitters, are key to achieving their signature tastes.
With a foundation rooted in culinary rigor and inspired by diverse influences, BarChef is a culmination of Solarik’s extensive experience. The atmosphere, characterized by dark, luxurious surfaces and moody lighting, complements the immersive cocktail experience while the open skylight integrates the city ambiance into the bar’s concept.
