A competitive Black Friday sale has emerged between Spirit and Frontier airlines, both offering significant discounts on one-way tickets for travelers looking to escape cold weather.
Spirit Airlines, based in Dania Beach, is promoting its "Black & Yellow Friday" initiative, advertising one-way flights starting at $25 for members of its Saver$ Club and $30 for non-members. This sale is valid for bookings made from November 28 to December 1, for travel dates spanning from December 6, 2025, to March 4, 2026. However, travelers should note that there are blackout dates from December 20, 2025, to January 5, 2026.
Frontier Airlines has also jumped into the fray, claiming 2 million seats at discounted rates starting at $24. Tickets must be purchased by November 30, 2025, and are valid for nonstop travel on select days until February 28, 2026. Blackout dates for Frontier include December 18-31, 2025, and January 1-5, 2026.
Both airlines are testing their low-cost business models designed to attract leisure travelers, with Spirit holding a substantial market share of 28.9% at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, compared to Frontier’s 1.7%. This ongoing competition is likely to impact travelers looking for budget-friendly flights during the holiday season.
