A significant blizzard is approaching the tri-state area, prompting officials to issue travel bans and suspend public transit services. Starting at 9 p.m. on Sunday, New York City’s mayor has declared a state of emergency, prohibiting all vehicles from using streets, bridges, and highways until noon on Monday. This ban comes as forecasts indicate that many will wake up to accumulations of over a foot of snow by Monday morning.
As a result of the severe weather, public transportation operations have been limited. Most subway services in New York City will operate on a local basis to accommodate winter weather conditions, while bus services will be adjusted based on road conditions, leading to potential disruptions.
In New Jersey, NJ Transit will suspend bus, light rail, and Access Link services starting at 6 p.m. The state has also enacted travel restrictions for commercial vehicles on highways. Governor Ned Lamont of Connecticut has similarly prohibited commercial vehicles from accessing limited highways statewide, urging residents to avoid unnecessary travel.
For those needing to navigate the region during this hazardous weather, all transportation updates are being posted by the MTA and NJ Transit.
